What I love about WINTER!

I'm needing to boost my winter spirits here. See, I hate winter!  Winter didn't bother me so much till I had little ones. And then winter was harder. It didn't mean putting a coat and boots on, it ment putting a lot of other peoples coats and boots on them too. And muddy floors, and mittens randomly thrown around the house (but never at the door where you need them)... oh dear... here I go. This is not what I love about winter, but what I hate (and just a drop in the bucket too...) I'm posting about what I LOVE! right? *sigh*

Here goes.

1.Unlimited fridge space. The upper landing in our garage works perfectly as an extra fridge!

2.Unlimited freezer space. The garage floor is cold enough to keep extras frozen...

Ummm... think think think...

I'm drawing a blank.  *positive thoughts*

3.More hot dinners! Summer is often too hot to cook warm meals, so winter is great because I love warm foods!

4. People don't really know if you've gained weight or not, because we're always well dressed!

5. The kids don't fight bedtime as much, since it's already dark by 4 pm (give or take) they think they've stayed up late when they go to bed at 7! And it's easier to sleep in in the morning too!

6. School, well... ok this one is a love/hate. Since I homeschool, it means that winter/school season brings more work for me. But I truly do love to see the kids learn something, and when they catch well, it's pretty cool!

7. Christmas! I will admit, that now that I'm an adult, Christmas doesn't have the same magical feeling. But it does have a richer, deeper meaning now. Now that it's not all about the presents that is. (yes, my parents tried to teach me it was more... but... ) However, I love all the Christmas lights and the sparkly feeling when you sit in front of a twinkling tree in the dark. *smile*

8. The furnace. I love sitting on the furnace vent. We have pictures with all our kids huddled around the vent in the morning! I love being warm :)

9. Tea. Since it's cold, I drink far more tea. Really, like 5 or 6 cups a day! Usually herbal or green tea, so I think it's ok. But sometimes hot tea is just to... hot... in the summer.

10.  Larry's sometimes home more! Summer tends to be Larry's busy time of the year, so it's nice when things slow down a bit in the winter and we have daddy around a little more :)

Well, I'm sure there's more, but I'm done for now. aka, supper needs to be made!!

But, I want to know... What do YOU love about winter?!?!?

  1. You're a better person that I am. I can't really think of anything. NO vitamin D, NO flip flops, NO bike riding... etc. Hmmm... I love my fireplace. How's that? Maybe you should come over and enjoy it too, it's so much nicer than furnace vents.

  2. I agree! Fireplaces are much much better! We've tossed the idea up of putting one in here every year (we have the stove already, lol) and each year we think we might sell in the spring so we don't put it in... 3 years now!

You know those lights that people use for SAD? Do they give out vit D, is that why they work? I think I'd be tempted to line my house with them...

  3. I think for me the house is sometimes tidier in the winter because when it's nice outside I'd like to bikeride and go on walks and the kids are bringing sand in on their feet etc....but that isn't always the case, in fact my house is NOT tidy at the moment. LOL! I like winter in December and after that I do get tired of it, except for those nice days when you can sled and take walks, build snowmen etc. Oh, I do seem to make soup in the winter a bit and probably never in the summer.....hm,...it is hard to think of things though. I guess too, Jay is home more in the winter so life gets easier for me as he does a lot of things to help out.

  4. Christine, I agree, I think my house might be neater too. In the summer I just want to take advantage of the nice days and be out as much as possible!! Staying in and cleaning house on a super nice day is pretty yucky, lol

How did Gavin like swimming this week? I didn't get to chat with you afterwards. We're hoping to go visit some family out of town with this two wk break from swimming.
