Haiti

I just feel so sad for what is going on in Haiti. It sounds like a real up hill battle of the people of Port Au Prince. So much needed, so few ways to help it seems. The impossibilities like blocked road ways and lack of clean water.  I'm somewhat haunted by it as I put my children into their warm safe beds. As I eat my plentiful food and waste water randomly throughout the day... I know that people living in these conditions are nothing new really. There's people struggling for basic needs each and every day. We are so blessed here. So, SO blessed.

So what will happen to use if we don't share what we have? Very few people in Canada are in the desperate shape these people are in. They don't even have ways to help themselves right now. So many people, hurting, dying... while we are so comfortable we can't even see beyond our own homes. Wishing for bigger, for more...more comforts, more money, more junk.
I see these desires in my own life, I won't deny it. And I struggle and fight with it too. Yet I think of these people in Haiti, and I see the devastation. We must do something! When I read in my Bible the Lord talks very plain about taking care of the unfortunate. The poor will always be with us He says. Just because the need is insurmountable, doesn't mean we don't try to tackle it. We are each called to do our part. Be kind to those around us, give generously ~like He's given to us~. Think of others, be that good Samaritan. Some of us can only give a little, but a little is so better then nothing!

The other day CTV did a poll on how Calgarians are helping Haiti. Over 50% said they were doing... nothing. Why? Have we seen to many movies that we are numb to reality? That we don't care any more?

Let us each Pray friends. Pray and ask the Lord what he would have us to do. If we have to sacrifice a little, that's ok... isn't it?

I'd love to hear from you all, what idea's have you come up with to help others in need, in Haiti or else where? How do you teach your kids about these things?

Blessings Friends :)
